wanted: 8 hours of sleep & 1 good elf

The elf is to clean my totally trashed home whilst I sleep. I  had almost 5 full hours and I feel improved. Sleeping on the couch with my boots still on. I can't sleep in bed til the sheets are washed,(they are germ-y, old fever sweat and icky poo) & Ive not had the stamina to do any laundry.  YET another new antibiotic today ! I awoke in another "sunburn" but also itch. Guess that wasnt fever but allergic reaction! Steroids must have subdued it a bit the other day. Took benadryl but already had codeine cough syrup in me. O it made me feel so nervous and weird in the mind! That was when I broke down and cried and cried, which only made me snottier and wheezier. Today they also added inhaler for the tight and wheezy airway. First they gave me a breathing treatment in the office and I can't believe how much easier breathing was *POOF*. What a relief.  That lasted about 5 hours and I slept most of it. JEM, thank you for being so willing to help and your loving concern. All the breathing treatments, antibiotics, steroids and puffers you had in your younger years, now I know exactly what you went thru. Of course, I don't think you pee'd yourself every time you coughed. Another good reason why I need and elf to come and clean !!!!

elderly art

Here is another of my favorite paintings in my little home. I picked this up t a flea market for $5.00 and it has been priceless enjoyment. It was originally unframed & on the ground propped up against a folding table. I was drawn to the earthy hues & serene setting. Seems I have no middle ground with art. It's either serene and muted or bizarre and extreme. As Georgia O'Keefe would have said, this is a "dirty painting" referring to the muddiness of the colors.
It is very primitive and relaxed in it's brush strokes.
Fishing nets in still water, not much sense of movement. I placed it in this old frame and used an old tasseled curtain tie-back as a hanger. It looks wonderful and Ive had offers to sell it, but I wont.
It is signed & dated the same on both its front & back. The artist, Harry Workman, was 93 years old when he did this piece! God bless him. I hope I am doing this kind of work when I am 93 !

ah choo

Hamlet wont come inside. I think he's frightened by my continual sneezing & wheezing. He just gives me this paranormal glance like he has a 6th sense. O geeze. I hope he's not one of those pets who can smell approaching death. No wonder. I have not cleaned up after myself since I got sick. There are dirty tissues & dishes as far as the eye can see. The neighbors can probably smell death.

Does this staircase look five miles high to you? It feels like it to me. Ive never wheezed before or been short of breath. Back to the doc. Scared up some Prednisone I had left over from a "two series of steriods , heres an injection to start and don't forget your antibiotics & pain pills" case of Poison Ivy I had in 2006.My arms looked like those of a rapidly decomposing Popeye. Hmm, memories. Well, the exp. date says they are good 'til March 2008. Is the god of ironical shining down on me or what ?

Indoor Garden

My indoor gardening skills pretty much stink in the winter. I don't know why but, I just let my plants to fend for themselves once the weather turns cold. Winter blahs I guess.
I don't have anything special . Some thyme and other herbs in the kitchen, then it's just philodendrons , ferns and the like with the exception of my begonias. er, um, what WERE my begonias.
I was disappointed with myself when I discovered I'd let this guy go. He is one of my Rex begonias and, when healthy ,(& the plant has more than one lonely leaf on it !), it is  spectacular crimson red due to the fine wooly red hairs that cover it. I am going to try and nurse him back. He was a bushy thing last summer *sigh*
This little fella has managed to do only tiny bit better. He is also a Rex but a different type. His leaves will continue to curl around on themselves, forming a nautilus like spiral. He gets a bronze tint to his leaves. I had the begonias out in my studio room and forgot all about them. They've been by the cold window and without water for to long. Time to see how much green is left in me wee Scotch-Irish thumb.

me & my cameras

This is what I do late at night, sick & in bed, can't sleep, can't breathe, can't swallow.

view from my balcony

I'm under the weather, which isn't all that good itself. Cold and white is the forecast today in my little part of Pennsylvania. As for me ; Achy, sneezy, coughing and germ infested.  Can't keep anything down. I opened the doors to the balcony just to let some fresh, frozen air in. It is still snowing. The dogs went out on the balcony, shook their heads in disbelief, came back in and laid down. More orange tea, please.

paper weight fantasy

I made this paperweight from a heavy vintage glass ashtray and clippings from vintage books.
My imagination filled with an idea of an explorer, a botanist, in the 1800's who sets out in search of unfounded herbs & plants that may be useful in curing plagues and other illnesses.
He ventures deep into thick, humid fauna of the South and in his search catches a glimpse of a being unknown, a woodland fairy darting about the camp.
He journals about this alien sighting and he himself becomes plagued, haunted if you will, by the sight of her for the rest of his days.
I had fun making this piece and although I wanted to keep it as natural as possible in it's images, I did add small amounts of glitter and a vintage rhinestone or two for fantasies sake. The enigmatic fairy is dressed in shells and her wings are real feathers. The back was filled after images were cut and pasted, then heavy cardboard covered with old barkcloth leaf fabric was affixed to the back for a "no scratch" surface.

~spring in my step~

Some multifab vintage goodies I purchased from Doe Hill Decor recently.
I thought these pieces would look ideal with my white wicker furniture on the porch of my periwinkle colored cottage.
It's a spring thing.
And for Lynn of Life at Cedar Hill, as promised, the proof our ducky planters were separated immediately upon hatching!

Pretty Pasta

I pulled out a bag of pretty pasta from the cupboard tonight and made my favorite simple but delicious quick pasta dish.
Some feta cheese, real butter, whole garlic, extra virgin olive oil,(evoo) & spices to taste.
Boiled & drained the pasta. Melted down the butter and added finely chopped garlic til infused then whisked in some evoo. Drizzled the butter mixture over top of pasta. Coarsely crumbled handfuls of feta cheese to crown the heap and then gently tossed altogether. This butter & oil sauce is perfect because not only does it have super flavor but it allows you the colorful eye candy of the rainbow pasta. You know what ? It was so divine it was gone before I thought to snap a picture of the finished dish! Oh well, it was good to the proverbial last bite.

Freezing rain here today

Freezing rain here today. It is coming down steadily & entombs the white snow under it's slick crust. Its just as well. Sunday is laundry day here at the cottage so I wont be tempted to procrastinate the chore due to good weather. Hamlet has been keeping close vigil over the Amyrillis progress.
Laundry awaits to be carried down to the old cellar for washing
My favorite oil painting here in the cottage. It best describes the current surroundings.

more mountain finds

I'm always looking for second hand books. What luck to find "junk chic", filled with stunning photos,(above), and a vintage copy of Jane Erye.

Cold Country, a drive from my cottage.

Pinks and blues laugh from streams of light
while evergreens burdened thick with white
gaze longingly down and densely groan
as smoke rises out of the little red home.

My friend Vee is so "V"ery talented

My friend Vee is so "V"ery talented. She has won many awards and ribbons for her craft of handmade dolls and felted originals.
Just look at what she sent me!  The most innocent looking tiny teddy bear with movable joints. His name is Rufus and he is becoming right at home with all my other little whimsys.
I am considering having her make me 2 slightly larger ones for a "3 Bears" vignette. Her blog if you'd like to see other works or make inquiries of your own.

~ wonderful weekend travels~

Last weekends foiled plans came to fruition this weekend. My son, his girlfriend and myself set out to search for treasures high and low. I left the decidedly messy, cottage studio behind for better sights. Jem was looking for art work and I was searching for whatever . We both found items of interest.
I couldnt resist this handmade, wooden dancing bear toy or linen with happy little embroidered posies. Both were in mint condition.
These five, vintage dog prints that were "free offers" back in the day of this dog food company. I purchased all 5 for only $2.50! They are in mint condition and will look simply sweet hanging in the guest room. We ate out had had some wonderful food and delicious coffee as we traveled. The weather was mild saturday but plummeted to Brrrrrrrisk by Sunday.
